Donna Melanson has had a life
long passion for drawing, painting
and sewing.
She was lucky enough to have many years of private art lessons
and a mom who taught her how to sew, design and create beautiful things.
Melanson graduated from Regis
College with a B.A. in Psychology and a Certificate in
Art Therapy. She then pursued careers in the Mental Health and Advertising
fields.
While raising her family she was able to get back to the things she loved.
Her endless desire to figure out how things are made, led Donna to try silk
painting.
She loved the way the dye flowed on the silk, and the unpredictable nature
of the results.
Many types of silk are used in the creation of Melanson's silk scarves and
hand sewn
pouches, purses, and framed work. She employs many techniques - stamping and
resist,
as well as a more blended watercolor effect - to achieve her one of a kind
results.
Melanson loves teaching, as it brings back the warm memories of being a student.
She has been teaching at DeCordova Museum for many years and also offers
classes at Silk & Clay Studio. .
